Surf Session Today

9/4-9/7

1st update in about a month...

Pacific hurricane south swell will make south-facing Santa Cruz your best bet for the long weekend.

Ocean Beach

Friday 9/4: FAIR★ —> 3-4ft+

Saturday 9/5: POOR-FAIR★ —> 4-5ft

Sunday 9/6 POOR-FAIR —> 4-5ft

Monday 9/7: POOR-FAIR★ —> 4-6ft

Summary: A long-period SW groundswell (16-second period) is filling in through Friday night into Saturday, giving OB occasional overhead sets at standout bars. Winds trend onshore through the day, so mornings are the clean window before afternoon texture builds. Swell eases Sunday and drops further Monday, leaving smaller, less consistent surf. Sat: Swell holds near its peak; the SW pulse keeps standout bars working. Best before onshore winds fill in by midday. Sun: Energy trending down as the groundswell fades; still rideable but less consistent. Mon: Smaller and softer as the swell tapers off — a lull day.

Linda Mar

Friday 9/4: POOR- FAIR★ —> 2-3ft+

Saturday9/5: POOR —> 1-2ft

Sunday 9/6: POOR—> 1-2ft

Monday 9/7: POOR —> 1-2ft

Summary :This weekend's SW-heavy pulse only partially wraps in — expect smaller, softer surf than Ocean Beach all weekend. Saturday sees the best of it as the swell peaks regionally, with light morning winds before it goes onshore.

Santa Cruz (Steamer Lane)

Friday 9/4: FAIR★ —> 3-4ft+

Saturday 9/5: FAIR★ —> 4-6ft

Sunday 9/6 FAIR★ —> 4-5ft

Monday 9/7: FAIR —> 4-6ft

Summary: A blend of long-period SSW groundswell and a touch of tropical south energy is producing waist-to-shoulder-high surf, with focal points (the Point/Middle Peak) pushing head-high+ on sets. Light morning winds hold through the weekend before afternoon SW wind adds some texture. Sat: Swell holds strong; standout spots still see the best sets. AM best before wind fills in. Sun: Energy holds as a slightly longer-period pulse mixes in — similar size, possibly cleaner lines. Mon: Eases slightly but still fair-quality surf with the lingering swell mix.

Please remember that surf conditions can vary and change rapidly. I recommended checking the cams before heading out.

WNW swell strengthens slightly with light/variable winds early and a light westerly shift by afternoon. Surf is improving through midmorning but may soften later as the sea breeze picks up.
