It's World Ocean Day

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

On World Ocean Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honor our one shared ocean, that connects us all.

Get together with your family, community, and /or your company, and join with millions of others around our blue planet to create a better future. By working together, we will protect and restore our shared ocean and climate. Join this growing global celebration in June and continue to grow the engagement year-round! Here are a few simple things you can do to protect coral reefs

  • Use #ReefSafe sunscreen - Oxybenzone & octinoxate ingredients in sunscreen can be harmful to or even kill corals. Inform yourself of safer choices for coral. Better yet, cut down on sunscreen use by wearing a long-sleeved shirt or rash guard, with UPF, to prevent sunburn.

  • Pack your trash - Trash in ocean can be harmful to coral reefs and marine animals. Dispose of your trash in bins, to avoid trash being blown or washed away into waterways and oceans. On beaches, make sure you leave no trash behind, and never throw or leave any cigarette butts in the sand.

  • Dive / Snorkel Safe - Don't touch the reef! Contact with the reef will damage the delicate coral, so if you need to put your feet down look for a sandy bottom.

  • Download “Seafood Watch” app - It will help you choose ocean-friendly seafood at your favorite restaurant and stores.

Small changes make a big difference!!!

So head over to Surfrider & get involve.
